Ukraine defeated Moldova 4-0 in their final warm-up match before the tournament. The win looks impressive on paper, however, Moldova are a minnow of European football. The win came just days after losing 3-1 to Poland.
The Ukrainians played three warm-up games for the tournament. In addition to the two previously mentioned, Ukraine played out a nil-nil draw against Germany on June 3. Ukraine have struggled in games against top European opponents this year.
Romania have struggled in 2024. They failed to win any of their four games in 2024, drawing three times and losing once.
Their draws were against Northern Ireland 1-1, Bulgaria nil-nil, and Liechtenstein nil-nil. The team’s lone loss came against Colombia 3-2. This year’s results have come after a strong 2023 in which Romania went unbeaten.
Since 2003, these teams have played four times, with Ukraine posting a win and a loss. Each of their last three head-to-head meetings were won by Ukraine. All three of those matches finished with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals.

One of the most exciting names in the Romania squad is Radu Dragusin. The defender turned heads while playing for Genoa and was signed by Tottenham in midseason. However, Dragusin failed to make the step up to the Premier League.
For Ukraine, all eyes will be on Girona’s Artem Dovbyk. The striker won the La Liga Golden Boot award in 2023-24 and was one of Europe’s breakout stars. Dovbyk is being tracked by several big clubs around Europe. A big tournament could see a big-money transfer.
