Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah: Record Breakers

Two of the world’s top forwards, Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah, broke goalscoring records at the weekend, further cementing their status as greats of the modern game.

On Saturday, Mbappe netted the last of Paris Saint-Germain's goals in a 4-2 victory over Nantes, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer with 201 goals.

Salah then joined Mbappe in the record books on Sunday, bagging a brace in Liverpool’s stunning 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United to become the club’s top scorer in Premier League history with 129 goals.

Mbappe leapfrogged Edinson Cavani at the summit of PSG’s all-time goalscoring charts, while Salah surpassed Robbie Fowler as Liverpool’s leading Premier League scorer.

Remarkably, Mbappe reached the 201-goal milestone in 247 appearances, averaging 0.81 goals per game. To put the feat into perspective, Cavani netted 200 goals in 301 outings, averaging 0.66 goals per game.

Mbappe has scored 137 goals in 164 Ligue 1 matches for PSG, in addition to 34 goals in 51 Champions League appearances. On top of that, the Frenchman has bagged 30 goals in 32 games across various cup competitions.

Let’s not forget that Mbappe has also claimed four Ligue 1 Golden Boots along the way, firing PSG to four Ligue 1 titles, three Coupe de France triumphs and two Coupe de la Ligue successes.

As for Salah, he scored his 129th Premier League goal for Liverpool in his 205th appearance, meaning he averages 0.63 goals per league game for the Reds.

Since arriving at Anfield in 2017, the Egyptian has clinched three Premier League Golden Boots, one Player of the Season award and one Goal of the Season award, as well as three PFA Team of the Year appearances.

It is also worth noting that Salah became Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer in Europe earlier this season, as the 30-year-old has netted 41 goals in 63 Champions League outings for the Merseyside outfit.

There is no hiding the fact that Liverpool have struggled this season, but Salah has remained consistent throughout the campaign, begging 22 goals and 11 assists in 37 matches across all competitions.

Despite suffering from a couple of injury setbacks, Mbappe has also been at the top of his game, racking up 30 goals and eight assists in 30 appearances this term, while PSG are on course to claim another Ligue 1 crown.

It is no secret that Mbappe and Salah are among the top forwards on the planet – and last weekend’s record-breaking achievements only enhanced their standing in the sport.
