On Sunday evening, England recorded a rather routine 2-0 win over Albania in their second Group I of qualifying for next years World Cup.

One player that shined in the game was Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, who had a hand in the first goal and scored the second, as the Three Lions recorded another comfortable international victory in qualifying.

Post-game, Mount understandably received praise for his performance. However, England head coach Gareth Southgate seem to have an issue with the midfielder’s perceived sudden rise in popularity.

He talked about Mount receiving praise now he is playing under high-profile Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, but not while he was under the tutelage of former Blues boss Frank Lampard.

No doubt Mount has been a highly player for a good while, as he earned praised during his youth career at Chelsea before impressing on-loan at Derby under Lampard.

The rookie boss then gave the midfielder his chance in the Blues first-team last season, which he took with both hands.

It would be harsh on Lampard to say that Mount’s development has been furthered that much by the arrival of Tuchel, simply due to the German boss not having that long in charge at Stamford Bridge. However, there is no doubt that Tuchel has a reputation for being a top coach.

He also has vast experience compared to his predecessor when it comes to coaching. Lampard has been a head coach for less than three years, while Tuchel has spent the last decade learning his trade, which has seen him manage Dortmund and PSG.

There is plenty more to come from Mason Mount for both Chelsea and England. It is a fair assumption to make that the youngster will improve under such a top head coach as Tuchel in club football. That will only benefit the England national team.
