Jamie Vardy keeps defying the odds

Jamie Vardy keeps defying the odds

Leicester and England striker Jamie Vardy scored a brace as the Foxes recorded a 2-0 win over Liverpool on Tuesday night to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The Foxes title challenge has been an unlikely one, which has been spearheaded by former non-league star Vardy, who has now scored 18 top-flight goals this season. The 28-year-old has certainly enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last year or so.

The former-Halifax striker is now competing with the likes of Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero and Everton’s highly-rated Belgian international Romelu Lukaku for the Premier League golden boot this season.

Vardy’s scoring form has not only won him his first caps for England, but reportedly interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United in his services. He will no doubt attract more interest from elsewhere in the summer, especially with the prospect of Vardy impressing for England in the European Championships.

However, for now Vardy needs to continue to score the goals that keep the Foxes top of the Premier League table. When the striker went through a four game recently, there were people that suggested his record-breaking goal scoring run earlier this season was a fluke.

Those sceptics grew in number when Vardy recently went four top-flight games without scoring. The striker has now hit the goal trail again though and has scored three goals in his last two league outings.

Jamie Vardy and his team keep defying the odds this season, but face a difficult task this Saturday when they travel to title rivals Manchester City. A win at the Etihad Stadium and the Foxes could be celebrating becoming one of the most unlikely champions of the Premier League era.
