A Miracle if Leicester City Qualify for Champions League

Leicester City are no strangers to performing miracles having won the Premier League title against all the odds in 2015/16. Under the guidance of Claudio Ranieri, the Foxes were originally being labelled as potential relegation candidates by some fans and pundits but delivered the seemingly impossible.

Since Blackburn Rovers won the title in 1994/95, only three other teams had won the Premier League prior to Leicester City, which underlines what a tremendous achievement it was for the club.

Fast forward to 2021 and Leicester City could be about to produce another miracle as they attempt to qualify for the Champions League.

In order to do so, the Foxes will need to finish inside the top four and at the beginning of the season, Leicester City were well behind the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur in the betting.

However, Leicester City have been extremely consistent throughout the campaign and they have never yet been outside the top four positions. Therefore, why would it be seen as a miracle if they were to qualify for the Champions League this season?

Much has been made about the injuries suffered in defensive positions for Liverpool this season. The Reds have struggled and they are currently facing an uphill battle to finish in the top four and secure much needed Champions League football for next season.

While there has been much discussion surrounding the injury problems at Anfield, the issues at the King Power Stadium have been somewhat ignored.

Going into the match at Brighton and Hove Albion on the 6th of March, Leicester City were without several first team players. Jonny Evans, James Maddison, Ayoze Pérez, Harvey Barnes, James Justin, Wes Morgan, and Dennis Praet were all unavailable for the trip to the south coast.

Four of those players most certainly would have started the match if they had been fit and Wesley Fofana only just returned to the team in defence following a spell on the treatment table.

Despite the disappointing run of injury problems, Leicester City have remained difficult to beat in the Premier League and at the time of writing they have lost only one of their last 7 Premier League fixtures and that came against Arsenal.

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to have Jonny Evans and James Maddison back before the end of the season. In terms of player fitness, perhaps being out of the Europa League will not work in favour of Leicester City as they aim to secure their place in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.

Leicester City still have to play Manchester City, West Ham United, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League before the end of the season.

Considering the injury problems Leicester City have had throughout the campaign, it will go down as a fantastic achievement by the club if they were to finish in the top four this season.
