Before the weekend all the talk about this weekend’s Premier League action was Liverpool’s home match against big north west rivals Manchester United. However, in true typical style, the match produced a goalless draw.

The team’s that really profited from the draw were the two City’s Manchester and Leicester. Both teams leapfrogged reigning champions Liverpool, who dropped to fourth place in the table.

Leicester are now sitting third in the table, just two points off league leaders Manchester United. Brendan Rodgers side recorded a 2-0 win over Southampton to seemingly put themselves right in the title race with half the season gone.

While many will consider the team from the Midlands major underdogs to win the English title, they have a history of surprising everybody. The current team is arguably man for man far better than the group of players that helped them to the most unlikely title victory in the Premier League era back in 2016.

This season’s Premier League is wide open and who knows, the Foxes could just surprise people once again.

However, maybe the most significant result of the weekend came at the Etihad Stadium, as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City trounced Crystal Palace 4-0 to move into second, just two points behind city rivals United with a game in-hand.

City have not been at their best going forward this season, with forwards Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus both sidelined for periods of the campaign. The Citizens looked close to their attacking best against the Eagles, despite Aguero’s absence through injury.

The passing was quicker and City once again kept a clean sheet, their seventh in their last nine top-flight matches.

The Citizens are now the favourites to win the Premier League title this season, although you can never write-off those wily Foxes.
