    Arteta Under Pressure at Arsenal

A look at the English Premier League table on the morning of the 30th of November shows Arsenal down in 14th place. They have only 13 points to show from their 10 games played this season and a -2 goal difference.

Having defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final at the end of last season and finished in 8th place in the Premier League, big things were expected of Arsenal under the guidance of Mikel Arteta this season.

The club were busy in the transfer market, bringing in Thomas Partey, Gabriel, and Willian to the Emirates Stadium to add to the talent already in the squad.

Arsenal made a strong start to the season, defeating Fulham 3-0 away from home and West Ham United 2-1 at the Emirates. Despite having suffered a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool, Arsenal bounced back immediately in the Premier League to defeat Sheffield United 2-1 at home and The Gunners were in a strong position. However, back to back defeats at Manchester City and at home against Leicester City saw Arsenal fall behind the early leaders.

Then came an excellent 1-0 win at Manchester United, although the deadlock was broken from the penalty spot thanks to a poor challenge in the penalty area by Paul Pogba.

That victory presented a good opportunity for Arsenal to put a good run of wins together in the Premier League. Following the victory at Old Trafford, Arsenal welcomed Aston Villa to the Emirates Stadium in a match they were expected to win.

However, Arsenal were second best and suffered an extremely disappointing 3-0 loss. A 0-0 draw followed at Leeds United before the 2-1 defeat at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday night.

Arsenal fans were expecting to see a significant improvement in the Premier League this season with Arteta at the helm. Having served his apprenticeship under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, big things were expected of the Spaniard but having played 10 Premier League matches this season, The Gunners have made their worst start to a league season since 1981.

Arsenal rarely threatened the Wolves goal throughout the 90 minutes in their most recent home defeat. Striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, was little more than a spectator for much of the game and Arteta has a lot of work to do in order to bring Arsenal out of their current slump.

Having played 10 matches in the Premier League last season under Unai Emery, Arsenal found themselves in 5th place despite being held to a 2-2 draw at home against Crystal Palace.

It is clear Arsenal have made improvements defensively but it appears to have come at the cost of scoring goals. Aubameyang has only scored two league goals this season and Arsenal have managed to score only two goals in their last 6 Premier League matches, which is a poor record.

Arsenal must now travel to Tottenham Hotspur, who are in good form and another defeat and lacklustre performance will be unacceptable to the fans.
