It may seem that there has not been improvement at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta since the Spaniard’s appointment as Gunners head coach when you look at the team’s league position.
However, a 2-2 draw at London rivals Chelsea after seeing David Luiz sent-off showed that the Gunners are now more difficult to beat under the former Manchester City assistant boss.
The draw means that the team from north London have suffered just one defeat in their eight games in all competitions under Arteta. They are also unbeaten in five competitive matches. They have drawn their last three matches, but things are starting to look slightly brighter for Arsenal.
The fact that they have the spirit to take a point from Stamford Bridge with ten men for a decent period shows that the spirit has improved. Their league position may not reflect the improvement, but Arsenal are finally showing some heart at least.
The job was never going to be an easy one and Arteta was brave to take the position in north London considering the weak team he inherited. It was always going to take time to turn things around. However, there now seems to be signs of recovery at the club from the capital.
Arsenal fans are unlikely to see the best of Arsenal until next season when the Spaniard has the chance to bring in new players and properly instil his ideas in the ones still at the club.
There has been a lot of doom and gloom around Arsenal in recent years. However, if everybody at the club gets behind Arteta, then they may one day in the future return to where they want to be.
At the moment they are very much a work in progress, but it is difficult to argue with a 2-2 draw at Chelsea in such trying circumstances.
