The British media are reporting that doctors have claimed that Tottenham forward Harry Kane could miss the rest of the season and even Euro 2020 due to his current hamstring problem.
If the prognosis is correct it would be a massive blow to Tottenham’s ambitions of finishing in the Champions League spots. Even with the 26-year-old playing regularly Spurs were struggling for consistency.
Jose Mourinho’s team are now nine points shy of the top-four after a poor run of form in the English top-flight, including defeats against Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool in their last five outings.
The fact that Spurs have scored just three times in their last five games shows how important Kane is to the north London club. He does not just score goals. The England international is the team’s talisman and focal point of their whole attack. When he is not playing Tottenham are not the same team.
It does not help that Spurs have not really got great depth in attack. South Korean attacking midfielder Heung Min-Son is a great player, but he is arguably better playing out wide and not as an out-and-out striker.
Of course, the winter transfer window is currently open. However, there does not seem to be any movement regarding a move for a striker. Any forward arriving at the club would revert to Kane’s deputy on his return from injury anyway.
Mourinho has a big job on his hands to lift spirits and his team, without their star player. After the start Tottenham experienced to the campaign, it would be a major achievement for the north London team to break back into the top-four this season.
This weekend Tottenham face a trip to in-form Watford. If results go against them this weekend Spurs could drop into the bottom half of the team.
If Kane is absent for the rest of the season, then who knows where Tottenham finishes in the Premier League table.
