According to media reports, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is one of the favourites to become Arsenal’s new head coach.

The Gunners recently dispensed with the services of Spanish head coach Unai Emery, with Freddie Ljungberg taking temporary charge of the team.

However, if reports are to be believed, then the Gunners are keen to make a quick appointment, with Rodgers among a group of bosses including Max Allegri, Nuno Espirito Santo, Mauricio Pochettino, Eddie Howe and Mikel Arteta also linked with the vacant position.

Rodgers has excelled as Leicester boss, since his appointment last season. The Foxes are currently second place in the Premier League table eight points behind league leaders Liverpool after a last-gasp 2-1 home win over Everton on Sunday. The performance was not the greatest, but the team from the Midlands ground out a win.

Rodgers style of play would fit into the way that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger instilled into the team. The fans appreciated the Frenchman’s style and it seems that the Gunners hierarchy are looking for a boss who has a similar football philosophy. Emery didn’t quite make the grade.

The Leicester boss honed his managerial skills in the SPL with Celtic before making the move to the Midlands. Rodgers was labelled a flop in his previous spell in the English top-flight after a poor final 12 months with Liverpool.

However, Rodgers showed his coaching ability at Anfield in taking the Reds to the brink of winning the Premier League title, only for his team to suffer a late collapse.

Therefore, a move to Arsenal may be tempting for Rodgers, considering the size of the north London club. However, with the two teams’ current positions in the table, it may seem like a step down at this point.

The Gunners are currently 13 points behind the Foxes in the table and in disarray. Maybe the Northern Irishman would be better of staying with the Foxes, for now anyway.
