Tottenham have dispensed with the services of Argentinian boss Mauricio Pochettino. The 47-year-old was at the north London club for just over five years. According to Sky Sports, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be his replacement.
Pochettino’s exit was not a major surprise, as Spurs are 14th in the top-flight table and have not won since the end of September in the Premier League. There has also been talk of the Argentine’s exit for the last month or so.
Despite his sacking, Pochettino will find it very easy to get another top job in football. He is regarded as one of the most tactically astute coaches in the European game and his firing will not change his reputation.
The former Espanyol boss has done an excellent job in north London. He helped Spurs to become an established force in the Premier League’s top four. However, arguably his biggest achievement was getting Tottenham to the Champions League final last season.
Pochettino did all this on a very small budget compared to his contemporaries in the Premier League’s top-six. There is no doubting his coaching acumen, as it was his coaching skills that kept Spurs punching above their financial weight in the English top-flight for the last few seasons.

It is this coaching acumen and philosophy that will mean he will not be unemployed for long. Such is his reputation he could still get a major managerial gig in the near future.
The likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United are rumoured, admirers. There have been question marks over both Zinedine Zidane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s futures at their respective clubs, although both teams’ fortunes have improved of late.
The job he did at Tottenham showed that he is capable of building a very good team, without necessarily spending a fortune. That is a quality that will appeal to many clubs out there. It would be a major surprise is Pochettino is out of the game for long that is for sure.
