One of the talking points over the international break has been the future of Everton boss Marco Silva. Many Evertonian’s believed that the Portuguese boss’ time had run out on Merseyside after four straight defeats saw the team slip into the relegation zone.
However, according to Sky Sports, Silva is likely to stay for at the least the next game after the international break, which is a home match against West Ham.
It seems that the former Watford boss has been handed a temporary reprieve. However, he must now show that he has the managerial ability to turn things around. In the last few games, Silva has looked like a lost man, though.
He certainly has not looked like a boss capable of guiding his expensively assembled team out of their current mire. The fixtures at the start of the campaign were looked at as a chance to lay down a foundation for a top-six challenge. Instead, the Toffees are floundering around in the bottom three.
Silva’s insistence on playing the same stale formation and making the same ineffective substitutions is the main crux of Everton fans problems with the Portuguese boss. The former highly-rated boss is unlikely to change much in his attempts to turn things around.
It seems he is just sending his players out on to the pitch and hoping for the best. The Toffees start to the season and a dire run during the middle of last season suggests that Silva is not the great tactician many believed him to be.
He has described the West Ham game as ‘must-win’, which suggests that he knows his Everton future is on the line. The Toffees hierarchy will be highly aware of Silva’s shortcoming, so anything other than a victory against the Hammers could well mean the end of Silva’s short reign as Everton boss.
