With the influx of overseas talent in the Premier League, Scottish players often slip under the radar.

Gone are the days of teams fielding all-British starting elevens. In fact, you a far more likely to find a team made up entirely of foreign players in England’s top-flight nowadays.

However, recently some of the country’s top clubs have been looking north of the border in an attempt to snatch a bargain.

Scottish players are generally far cheaper than English players and their low transfer fees are appealing to Premier League clubs.

Darren Fletcher and Gary McAllister made over 650 top-flight appearances between them and both had highly successful careers with Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.

Duncan Ferguson, Neil Sullivan and David Weir each made over 200 appearances in the Premier League and now there’s a new crop of Scottish talent on show.

Let’s take a look at some of the best Scottish players currently plying their trade in England’s top-flight.

    Andy Robertson – Liverpool

Andy Robertson is widely regarded as the best left-back in the Premier League. The 25-year-old won the Champions League with Liverpool last season and narrowly missed out on the Premier League title following a stellar individual campaign.

Robertson already has 116 top-flight appearances to his name, and after recording 11 assists last season, he is likely to see many more years of success with Liverpool.

    Ryan Fraser – Bournemouth

Fraser enjoyed a fantastic 2018/19 campaign, which saw him score 7 goals in the Premier League while also registering 13 assists.

The little midfielder is best known for his pace and creativity, and he has been a vital part of Bournemouth’s top-flight progression in recent seasons.

    John McGinn – Aston Villa

Following McGinn’s move to Villa from Hibernian in 2018, the speedy winger has established himself as one of Scotland’s most exciting young players.

At 24, his best years are still ahead of him, and after helping his team gain promotion to the Premier League in the last campaign, McGinn is ready to take the Premier League by storm this season.

    Stuart Armstrong – Southampton

Stuart Armstrong moved to Southampton from Celtic prior to the start of the 2018/19 campaign and was one of the club’s standout performers last season.

The midfielder is known for his hard work and tenacity in the middle of the park and also chips in with some spectacular long-rang goals.

    Kieran Tierney – Arsenal

Kieran Tierney is the latest Scottish arrival to the Premier League, and although he is yet to make an English top-flight appearance, the highly-rated left-back is tipped to be a future Arsenal star.

The 22-year-old is used to winning with Celtic and his experience in Scotland will stand him in good stead for the season ahead.
