Back in 2014, Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez was one of the hottest players in the world game. The then youngster was one of the stars of the World Cup, helping his national team to the quarter-finals of the competition with five goals.

His career should have gone from strength to strength after his displays in Brazil. However, the now 27-year-old has enjoyed an inconsistent time since his star turns for his country.

James made a big-money move to Real Madrid the same summer. He was supposed to be the next Galactico. However, despite some flashes of his ability he never really found the consistency needed to become a star for Los Blancos.

He then moved on to another goliath of European football in Bayern Munich, where he has spent the last few seasons on-loan.

Once again, he has struggled for consistency in Bavaria and the German champions look unlikely to spend the £37.5million to make his stay in Germany a permanent one.

James is reportedly not in the long-term plans of Los Blancos Zinedine Zidane at his parent either. Therefore, he looks likely to move on once again this summer. According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the Premier League is James’ most likely destination.

Reportedly, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing the Colombian this summer. Maybe a move to the English top-flight is what the attacking midfielder needs after struggling to convince in La Liga and the Bundesliga.

There is no doubt he is still a highly talented player and the right environment could well bring the best out of the former FC Porto player. Liverpool look well-stocked with attacking players.

However, he looks like he could be a very attractive option for both Arsenal and Manchester United, who for various reasons could be in need of a new attacking midfielder this summer. Who knows maybe James will be plying his trade in the English top-flight next season.
