Leeds may be the odd team out in the relegation battle

The fight for survival in the Premier League may well turn out to be the most compelling unresolved issue left in the Premier League in the dying embers of the English top-flight campaign.

The battle to avoid relegation has become just that, a battle, as the likes of Burnley and Everton battled to vital weekend victories.

The big losers of the weekend were Leeds United, who suddenly find themselves just three points clear of 18th place Everton and level on points with Burnley.

The team from Yorkshire have three big factors against them in that Everton has a game in hand and that their fixtures look really difficult on paper. The other issue is that the Whites’ goal difference is the third-worst in the league after the bottom two Watford and Norwich.

To be fair to Leeds they have been highly unfortunate this season when it has come to injuries. Key players like Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips have missed large chunks of the campaign.

Ever-present utility man Stuart Dallas also picked up a serious injury in the 4-0 home defeat by Manchester City last time out in the Premier League.

It all feels like everything is against Jesse Marsch and his team. With games at Arsenal and a home game against Chelsea, they have to start grinding out results, as Everton and Burnley have done in recent weeks.

However, their fans do not seem confident that their team can pick up enough points to avoid the dreaded drop down to the Championship, despite their team suffering just one defeat in their last six Premier League outings.

No doubt there are still plenty of twists and turns left in the fight for Premier League survival this season. At the moment though, things do not look great for the Yorkshire outfit.
