Sam Allardyce is the only logical choice for England

According to Sky Sports, the English FA are set to talk to Hull City boss Steve Bruce about the vacant England bosses job. It seems unlikely that the former-Sunderland boss will get the job, but no doubt the FA needs to do their homework on the potential candidates.

Bournemouth’s promising young boss Eddie Howe is also believed to have been interviewed about the role. However, there seems to be only one logical English appointment at the moment and that is Sam Allardyce.

To say that the Sunderland boss’ appointment would split opinion would be an understatement. At the moment, though, the Three Lions have a dearth of options. The FA seems to only be interested in an Englishman to fill the position.

Allardyce has a good reputation to man-management and producing well-drilled teams. The 61-year-old has always created solid, functional teams on very little resources. He has however never been handed a high-profile job, with the exception of Newcastle.

The current England team now needs the sort of skill set that Big Sam provides. He has been criticised for the style of his teams play at times, but his teams have also produced some good stuff in the past, especially his Bolton team.

Now is not the time for England to appoint somebody who wants to play like the other nations. England have tried and failed to mirror their European rivals, but it has not worked.

The Three Lions were humiliated at Euro 2016 by Iceland. That sort of result would not have happened if Sam Allardyce was in charge. For all the ifs and buts, for the all arguments, it seems that Allardyce is the only logical choice for the job.
