Christian Benteke would thrive at another EPL club

Christian Benteke would thrive at another EPL club

Rumours are bound that Liverpool and Belgian striker Christian Benteke will leave the Reds this summer. The striker only moved to Anfield in the summer of 2015 from Aston Villa for a fee of around £32.5million.

The Belgian striker has struggled to adapt to life on Merseyside and struggled to get into the team following the arrival at the club of Jurgen Klopp as boss. His performance with the Reds is in stark contrast to his form at Villa.

In two seasons with the Villans he scored 49 goals in 101 appearances, in what was mostly a mediocre team in the Midlands. He scored over 15 goals in both of his Premier League campaign with Villa.

At his best he would be a major torment to Premier League defenders for the side from the Midlands.

If teams play to his strengths he will score goals in the English top-flight. However he is not the sort of striker that fits into Klopp’s style of play. He is more of an old fashioned target man, but is not the type of striker to run and close down defenders, which is what Klopp likes in his lone striker.

Benteke is yet to return to pre-season training with Klopp’s team after being at Euro 2016 with the Belgian national side. When he does return to the club it remains to be seen if he has a future with the side from Merseyside.

The likes of West Ham and Crystal Palace have been heavily linked with moves for the 25-year-old this summer. If the striker is giving more playing time next season in the English top-flight he will score goals.
