Spain may have found an answer to their striking conundrum

Spain may have found an answer to their striking conundrum

European champions Spain have recorded two wins from their two games at Euro 2016, just like football predictions suggested they would. There two games produced mixed emotions for the Spanish.

Their opening game win over Czech Republic produced question marks over whether they lacked a prolific forward. The 3-0 hammering of Turkey produced an emphatic answer as Juventus striker Alvaro Morata scored a brace.

Cynics will say that Turkey were not the greatest opponents and that most teams would have beaten Fatih Terim’s team. However, if Morata can stop himself from wandering from his central striker position then he may be the perfect striker for Vicente del Bosque’s side.

Spain produced typically mesmerising displays with the ball, as passing teams into submission has become the Spanish trademark. However, even when they were winning trophies there were still slight concerns over the striker position, which lead to a striker-less system with a false number nine as the most advanced player in attack.

Morata has hardly been prolific in his club career and had struggled to even get into the Juventus side since his arrival from Real Madrid. However, the system of play implemented at Juventus may have contributed to his lack of goals.

For Spain the striker has the likes of David Silva, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas to supply the ammunition. What La Roja need is a striker who will stay in the area and be a poacher. Morata is a promising striker and if he can adapt his game to become more of a poacher then he could score a lot of goals for Vicente del Bosque, starting with La Roja’s last group game against Croatia on Tuesday.
