5 big transfers you may have missed this summer

With the European Championship grabbing most of the headlines at the moment, a number of high-profile transfers have slipped under the radar.

Some of the biggest clubs in Europe have already been splashing the cash during the offseason, while other sides have dipped into the free transfer market.

Here are five big transfers you might have missed this summer.

• Dayot Upamecano – RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich

Having established himself as one of the best young centre-backs on the planet, Bayern Munich paid €42.5m to acquire Upamecano’s services from RB Leipzig.

The France U21 international – who also has three caps for the senior side – racked up over 150 appearances for the Red Bulls and looks set to become a key figure for Bayern.

• David Alaba – Bayern Munich to Real Madrid

It could be argued that Bayern brought in Upamecano to fill the void left by Alaba. The versatile Austrian recently joined Real Madrid after his contract expired.

Believe it or not – Alaba is still just 28. He won ten Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and two Champions League trophies across a remarkable 11-year career in Bavaria.

• Memphis Depay – Lyon to Barcelona

Depay moved from PSV Eindhoven to Manchester United back in 2015, but the big move didn’t quite work out for him. Now, he has the chance to make a name for himself with Barcelona.

The Dutchman heads to Spain on the back of a hugely successful stint in France, having racked up 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 appearances for Lyon. Can he shine at Camp Nou?

• Ibrahima Konate – RB Leipzig to Liverpool

Alongside Upamecano, Konate gained a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders at Leipzig, making just under a century of appearances for the Red Bulls.

Liverpool were forced to fork out €40m to snatch the 22-year-old from the German giants. If he can fulfill his potential, he could prove to be worth every cent.

• Georginio Wijnaldum – Liverpool to PSG

Heading for the Anfield exit, Wijnaldum will team up with PSG after the European Championship. He leaves Anfield having won the Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup with the Reds.

The dynamic Dutchman made just shy of 250 appearances for Liverpool, contributing 22 goals and 16 assists along the way. He is destined to make a big impact in the French capital.
