Steven Bergwijn scored a stunning debut goal as Tottenham beat Manchester City to move up to fifth in the Premier League table.
Pep Guardiola’s side arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking for a fifth win in six league games and dominated the early stages.
Sergio Aguero saw his shot saved onto the post by Hugo Lloris before the Argentine was brought down by Serge Aurier in the penalty area. After a lengthy VAR review, the spot-kick was awarded.
However, Ilkay Gundogan’s penalty was saved by Lloris. But the drama wasn’t over. VAR was again called into action to judge on whether Lloris had fouled Raheem Sterling immediately after the penalty.
Both sets of players clashed in the aftermath with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Toby Alderweireld both being booked. But Sterling avoided a yellow card despite replays showing him appearing to dive.
The score remained goalless at half-time, but the game swung in Tottenham’s favour when Zinchenko was sent off for a second bookable offence on the hour mark.
Three minutes later, Bergwijn received a clever Lucas Moura cross on the edge of the area before cushioning the ball on his chest and volleying into the bottom corner.
Son Heung-min completed the scoring on 71 minutes when his low drive deflected off Fernandinho and past a helpless Ederson.

Tottenham were extremely clinical, with all three of their shots finding the target. By contrast, Man City were very wasteful. Just five of their 18 shots were on target and they failed to make any of them count.
As expected, Guardiola’s side dominated the possession. However, Zinchenko’s red card changed the game, allowing Spurs to see more of the ball.
Man of the Match: Giovani Lo Celso (Tottenham Hotspur)
Lo Celso was starting his fifth consecutive game for Tottenham in all competitions – his best run in the side since joining the club last year.
The Argentine midfielder registered more passes and ran further than any other Tottenham player against Man City.
After a difficult start to his Spurs career, Lo Celso has started to prove his worth with some excellent performances.
