Manchester City managed to take a point away from Anfield this Sunday after Kevin De Bruyne netted shortly following Mohamed Salah’s Goal of the Season contender in what was a thrilling encounter that lived right up to the billing.

The game was a chance for Liverpool to return to the top of the Premier League, while the champions could have also done the same if they beat the Reds with a superior goal difference margin over Chelsea.

Ultimately, however, it was one of the games of the season and it was a clear reminder to where the two sit in this Premier League puzzle and where the likes of Manchester United are as both Liverpool and City showed elite class throughout the 90 minutes.

The Reds started with more pressure and began to see a bit more of the ball, but as the first half gradually went on, Phil Foden started to give Andrew Robertson all sorts of problems, just as Bernardo Silva eased into the game.

There was a consistent linkup between Foden and Silva during the first half and with Rodri allowing for such freedom down the left channel, Manchester City would have been tremendously irritated that they didn’t get a goal in the first 45.

Liverpool’s relentless nature eventually shone through when Salah’s Man of the Match performance really started to come through, as he made ground halfway up the pitch to slide in Sadio Mane, who eased the ball past Ederson to make it 1-0.

For the next few minutes, Jurgen Klopp’s pressure was getting to the men of Pep Guardiola, but after brilliant work from Gabriel Jesus allowed in the excellent Foden, he smashed home a tidy finish once again at Anfield.

The game continued to live up to hype and expectation as at 1-1, the boat began to rock either side and no team really looked as if they had anything superior to snatch all three points. However, then came utter Anfield magic from the magical man, Salah.

The Egyptian picked up the ball just outside the box and muscled out the City defenders. He then slid the ball around the helpless Rodri and Silva, before both Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias hit the deck in an effort to try and stop him.

Salah’s goal is arguably the best of the season thus far, but a strike from De Bruyne just five minutes later was enough to get a well-earned point for the champions from Merseyside in what was an outrageously entertaining game of football.
