Fulham’s return to the Premier League was short lived and they find themselves back in the Championship after just one season in England’s top-flight.
The club had three different managers over the course of the last campaign; underlining their struggles both on and off the pitch.
Despite last season’s disappointments, The Cottagers have a strong squad that is likely to challenge for promotion again this time around.
Last season
Fulham endured a season to forget as they finished second from bottom in the Premier League and ten points from safety.
The club acquired a number of high-profile players in the summer transfer window however the team failed to gel.
Slavisa Jokanovic was sacked in November and was replaced by the Claudio Ranieri. The experienced Italian lasted just 106 days as former Fulham player Scott Parker was tasked with trying to the club in the top flight.
Despite winning three of their last five matches, the damage was already done and Fulham returned to the Championship at the first time of asking.
Next season
Fulham will be looking for stability this season. The club lost 26 of their 38 league matches last term and a record like this simply isn’t good enough.
The team also won just one away match throughout the 2018/19 campaign and Scott Parker must address this issue.
With many of Fulham’s highly-paid loan players returning to their parent clubs, the team should be able to settle far more comfortably than last season.
One player that has remained with the club is star striker Aleksandr Mitrovic. The giant Serbian has recently committed his future to Fulham by signing a new five-year contract.
The 24-year-old was part of the side that was promoted to the Premier League in 2018 and his experience at this level will be vital.
If Mitrovic can live up to the bookies’ expectations of being the favorite to finish the season as the Championship’s top scorer, Fulham stand a fantastic chance of returning to the Premier League at the first available opportunity.
