Since their promotion to the Championship in 2014, The Bees have developed into one of the league’s most settled and consistent sides.
They reached the play-offs in their first season back in the second-tier but have finished between 9th and 11th place in the past four campaigns.
Could this be the season that Brentford finally reach the promise land of English football and secure promotion to the Premier League?
Last season
Brentford got off to a flier last season and the club suffered just two defeats in their opening twelve Championship matches.
They struggled for wins in the middle of the season however three straight victories in their final three league matches saw the club finish in 11th place.
The club’s defensive record was impressive last season and it helped Brentford to finish with a better goal difference than the four teams directly above them in the table.
At the other end of the pitch, Neal Maupay was the team’s standout performer last season. The 22-year-old scored 25 league goals while registering eight assists.
Next season
Star-man Maupay has been subject to interest from both Championship and Premier League clubs but with the transfer window closing imminently, the former France under-21 forward looks set to stay at Griffin Park.
This will boost the club’s chances of competing for a top-six finish as his creativity and goals are vital to the team.
Despite losing Ezri Konsa to Aston Villa, Brentford have strengthened further at the back with the addition of Pontus Jansson.
The giant Swedish defender made 41 appearances for Leeds United last season and helped his former club reach the play-offs.
Jansson, along with the new defensive midfield duo of Mathias Jensen and Christian Norgaard, will add extra steel to an already resolute Brentford defense and this will significantly benefit the squad.
If head coach Thomas Frank can successfully blend the club’s new signings in with his current set of players, Brentford could be an extremely difficult side to beat next season.
