    Arsenal – Season Preview 2019/20
    19/07/19 5638

The 2019/20 campaign will be Arsenal’s 100th consecutive season in the top flight of English football. The club has won the Premier League three times and has claimed a total of 13 league titles overall.

After a mixed season last time out, The Gunners will be desperate to establish themselves as one of the country’s top teams once again.

    Last season

Following Arsene Wenger’s departure from the club after 22 years at the helm, Unai Emery was the man put in charge of overseeing the club’s transitional season.

The Spaniard guided Arsenal to a 5th place finish in the Premier League. The club also reached the Europa League final but missed out on the trophy after losing to London rivals Chelsea.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the league’s joint top scorer last season with 22 goals to his name whilst Alexandre Lacazette also impressed with 13 league goals and 8 assists.

The two forwards developed an almost telepathic understanding last season and the duo will be key to Arsenal’s chances of success this time around.

    This season

Arsenal must improve defensively if they are to better last season’s 5th place finish. They conceded 51 league goals last campaign with only Manchester United and West Ham United letting in more out of the teams who finished in the top half of the table.

Arsenal’s away form must also improve dramatically. They registered just one clean sheet away from home throughout the whole of the 2018/19 league campaign and cannot afford to be as poor at the back this season.

Aaron Ramsey will be a sorely missed in Arsenal’s midfield following his departure to Juventus. The club failed to tie Ramsey down to a new contract, resulting in the Welshman leaving on a free transfer. He always gave his all for the club and, due to some of Arsenal’s highest paid stars underperforming, the club must find an adequate replacement.

18-year-old Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli has already been brought in whilst compatriot and former Gunner Edu has been appointed as technical director. Unai Emery, along with the help of Edu, must strengthen the squad further in order to move forward.

Arsenal will open their 2019/20 account against Burnley. They will then travel to Anfield to face Liverpool before a north London derby with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Their opening league fixtures could well define their season. If they come away from their first three matches unbeaten, it will fill the squad with huge confidence for the season ahead. Conversely, if they struggle to make an impact early on, Arsenal may find themselves falling short once again.

    Predicted league finish

The predicted Premier League finish for next season is 4th place.
