Robert Lewandowski has agreed a deal with Barcelona and he will join the Spanish club ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Bayern Munich will receive around 53 million Euro for the transfer, which seems a lot of money for a 33-year-old. However, as recent statistics show, Lewandowski is a striker who is still doing the business at the top level.

Lewandowski leaves German football after another tremendous season in front of goal. The Polish international scored a total of 50 goals in all competitions last season, including 35 goals in 34 matches in the Bundesliga.

Having played 10 games in the Champions League, Lewandowski scored 13 goals and he finished the campaign having scored more goals than he played matches.

Amazingly, having scored the number of goals he did last season, Lewandowski scored more than 40 goals for the seventh consecutive season, which is an incredible statistic. He finished as the Bundesliga top scorer for the seventh time last season and for the fifth time in succession.

Even Erling Haaland, who is being tipped as the next big thing in world football, could not surpass the goal scoring exploits of Lewandowski. Having finished the 2021/22 season as the Bundesliga’s top scorer, Lewandowski equalled the record of Gerd Müller.

During the 2021/22 campaign, Lewandowski broke the record for the most away goals in a single season, scoring 19 times on the road. In March, Bayern Munich played Red Bull Salzburg in the knockout stages of the Champions League and Lewandowski scored a hattrick inside the first 23 minutes, taking a total of just 11 minutes for all 3 goals.

It was the quickest hattrick ever scored in the knockout stages of the Champions League and the earliest ever scored from the start of a Champions League game.

Based on those statistics, Lewandowski is not a player winding down at the end of his career. The Pole is still delivering phenomenal performances at the highest level and he has a fantastic injury record. You do not finish as the top goal scorer in the Bundesliga for the fifth consecutive season if you have long spells on the treatment table and Lewandowski is a fit player, who has not missed many games for his club. In fact, during his time in Germany, Lewandowski missed only 24 of a possible 408 league fixtures.

Looking at his overall statistics in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich, Lewandowski scored 312 goals in 384 appearances.

That places him second on the Bundesliga’s all-time scoring chart, with only Gerd Müller above the former Borussia Dortmund striker.

Some of the other unbelievable statistics from Lewandowski’s time with Bayern Munich include 5 goals in just 9 minutes from the substitutes bench against Wolfsburg and 13 hattricks.

Lewandowski leaves German football with four Guinness World Records to his name and as a Bayern Munich and Bundesliga legend.

Some fans may question the money being spent by Barcelona on a 33-year-old striker but as the statistics show, Lewandowski is far from your average player.
