Despite holding home advantage in Thursday’s 3rd round 1st leg tie in the Copa do Brasil against Flamengo at their Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira, Serie B outfit, Coritiba, face a tough two-legged assignment against their Serie A counterparts.
Coritiba made a bright start to the new Serie B season following last term’s relegation from the Brazilian top flight, by recording a 2-0 home win against Avai, but the hosts quickly suffered defeat in their following match as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat away from home at Botafogo.

Indeed, recent results have been poor overall for Coritiba who have managed to pick up just one win out of their last seven matches in all competitions which came in the shape of the aforementioned 2-0 win against Avai but the hosts have also suffered five defeats within this period as well.
The Copa do Brasil hasn’t yielded too many highlights for Coritiba either as they’ve won just three of their last 12 cup-ties in this competition, while previous meetings against Flamengo have produced just one win from their last six encounters.
Flamengo will be keen to progress further than last season’s quarter-final stage in the Copa do Brasil this time around as they prepare for this trip to Serie B side, Coritiba, and Flamengo have made a solid start to the new Serie A season, winning 1-0 at home against Palmeiras on the opening day of the new term.
Flamengo have produced a solid sequence of results of late as the visitors are unbeaten in their last 13 matches in all competitions, and indeed, they’ve lost just one of their last 20 matches overall.
In the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo reached the quarter-finals of last season’s competition before being thrashed 5-1 on aggregate by Sao Paulo, but the visitors have lost just four of their last 14 cup-ties overall.
Overall results away from home in the Copa do Brasil haven’t been entirely convincing though, but Flamengo’s previous performances against their hosts, Coritiba, in previous meetings suggest that the Serie A visitors will be too strong for Coritiba here on Thursday night.
In addition, it’s also early in the season so Flamengo have no reason to rest any key first-team players for this cup-tie and should therefore be at full strength.
