Corinthians will host Atletico GO for the second time in a week on Wednesday in the Copa do Brasil. The two Brazil heavyweights met on matchday 1 of the Brazilian Serie A with Atletico GO posting a 1-0 win.
Ze Roberto’s 45th-minute goal gave Atletico GO the victory. The game saw eight yellow cards given out to players from both teams in a feisty affair.
Recent matches between Corinthians and Atletico GO have finished low scoring. Their last seven fixtures all ended with under 2.5 goals tallied. Atletico GO are unbeaten in the last four games against Corinthians in Serie A.
Atletico GO have started the season well in all competitions. They have posted 16W-6D-1L record in 23 matches in all competitions.
Atletico GO played in the first and second rounds of the Copa do Brasil posting a 3-1 win against Galvez and 2-0 versus Joinville.
Corinthians also started the Copa do Brasil in the first round. They defeated Salguierro 3-0 before drawing 1-1 with Retro and winning it 5-3 on penalties.
The Sao Paulo club are in a bit of shambles this season and the Serie A campaign just started last weekend. On May 23, the club appointed former Barcelona defender Sylvinho as head coach. His appointment came after the sacking of 47-year-old Vagner Mancini.
Mancini was sacked after a run of poor results with Sylvinho hired to coach his boyhood team. Syvinho’s arrival did not help Time do Provo to defeat Atletico GO at the weekend.
Atletico GO finished 13th last season in Serie A. Despite that finish, they have started the 2021 campaign well with just one defeat in all competitions.
They failed to qualify for the final 16 phase of the Copa Sudamericana, however.
Eduardo Barroca was appointed coach ahead of the season. His influence on the team has done the players well. Barroca could be without just one player for the game as forward Arthur Gomes is suffering from a muscle injury.
According to the latest fitness reports, Sylvinho has a long list of injured players. Seven players are listed as injured including Caue, Gabriel, Xavier, Jemerson, Gustavo Mantuan, Danilo Avelar, and Ruan Oliveira. Meanwhile, Romulo Otero is with the Brazilian national team.
Atletico GO are on a great run of form while Corinthians are struggling at the moment. The Dragon should post a second straight win against Corinthians only this time in the Copa do Brasil.
Like their last seven matches, it should see under 2.5 goals.
