Corinthians set for clean-sheet victory over Atletico Goianiense
    27/05/21 2016

Corinthians and Atletico Goianiense go head-to-head at Arena Corinthians on Sunday as the 2021 Brazilian Serie A season kicks off.

Corinthians endured a disappointing 2020 campaign, finishing twelfth in the final standings – just ten points clear of the relegation zone.

Funnily enough, Atletico Goianiense finished just one place and one point behind Corinthians last season – conceding exactly the same number of goals (45).

It is worth remembering that Corinthians failed to score a single goal across their final three Serie A matches last term.

However, they finished the 2020 campaign on a high on home soil – losing just one of their last nine league games at Arena Corinthians.

Looking at the bigger picture, Corinthians only managed to win one of their final eight Serie A matches last term.

It is also worth pointing out that each of Corinthians’ last three league games have produced under 2.5 goals.

With that in mind, a low-scoring encounter is expected when Atletico Goianiense come to town this weekend.

Meanwhile, Atletico secured a 1-1 draw with Newell’s earlier in the week – booking their place in the Copa Sudamericana knockout phase in the process.

Atletico remained unbeaten throughout the group stage, registering two wins and four draws along the way.

Impressively, Atletico only conceded two goals across their six Copa Sudamericana group games and finished three points behind first-place Libertad.

When it comes to Serie A, Atletico finished with a record of W12-D14-L12 last term – underlining their inconsistency.

Let’s not forget that each of Atletico Goianiense’s previous four league matches have produced a draw at half-time.

Head-to-head: Corinthians have only lost one of their last six meetings with Atletico, picking up two wins and three draws in that time.

Interestingly, each of the previous four meetings between Corinthians and Atletico have produced under 1.5 goals.

Team news: Corinthians are currently without injured centre-back Danilo Avelar, who is still nursing a cruciate ligament problem.

Atletico have no injury worries ahead of the new campaign. Matheus Pereira, Luan Sales and Wellington Rato are all back at the club following loan spells.

With Corinthians losing just one of their last six games against Atletico, the home side are expected to claim all three points this weekend.

Forebet predicts that Corinthians will keep a clean sheet en route to overcoming Atletico on Sunday.
