Can Newcastle United claim a penultimate day of the PL season win over Sheffield United?

Newcastle United are safe and headed into the offseason with no pressure on their shoulders. While the Magpies may have secured their status in the Premier League, Sheffield United have not.

The Blades will play Championship football next season and will finish last in the league regardless of their results on the final two days of the season. Sheffield United are coming off of a surprise win, however.

The team went away to Goodison Park and defeated Everton 1-0 in the Premier League to dent Carlo Ancelotti’s team’s hopes of making Europe.

The Blades won the reverse fixture in the league against Newcastle United, 1-0. Billy Sharp’s second half penalty gave the Blades the win.

Ryan Fraser was sent off in the fixtures for Newcastle United. The home team have won the last two matches between the sides.

Newcastle United are in better form today than when they played versus Sheffield United earlier this season. The Magpies took 10 points from the last 18 on offer in the league. They outscored their last six opponents 13-12.

Sheffield United took six points from the last 18 available to them. The pressure is off the team’s shoulders and it has showed at times in recent matches.

Still, the Blades only scored a ridiculous two goals over the course of those last six matches. They conceded 11 times.

As seems to be the case for every Newcastle United matchday, Steve Bruce has a number of injuries going into the game. Striker Callum Wilson is ruled out of the match as is Jamaal Lascelles.

Fraser is out of action due to a groin issue, goalkeeper Karl Darlow has a knee injury, Elliot Anderson has a groin strain, and Isaac Hayden is out with a knee problem. Meanwhile, defender Fabian Schar is ruled out due to a suspension.

Sheffield United interim manager Paul Heckingbottom has six names on the team’s injury list. Oliver McBurnie is ruled out with a foot injury. Jack O’Connell and Ethan Ampadu is also ruled out of the match with injuries. Oliver Burke and Billy Sharp are both out of action with injury.

It is unlikely defensive Sander Berge will feature for the team for the rest of the season. He has battled injury this season, but Sheffield United need him to stay fit to cash-in on a sale of Berge in the offseason.

The home team have won the last two games between these teams. Newcastle United should keep the trend going with the team winning for a second time in a row at St. James’ Park versus the Blades.
