Coupe de France semi-final hosts, Montpellier, may well fancy their chances of producing a cup upset over PSG when they play host to their illustrious visitors at their Stade de la Mosson on Wednesday night.

Following recent back-to-back defeats against Nice and Saint-Etienne, Montpellier bounced back with a 3-2 win away from home at Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on the weekend.

That will serve as a timely boost for Montpellier ahead of this decisive semi-final tie against PSG.

Previously, Montpellier had put together an impressive 15-match unbeaten run in all competitions, proving that the hosts are no easy-beats.

So, they should be respected in this cup-tie having won all of their previous four rounds at the first time of asking.

Victories against Strasbourg, Olympique d’Ales, Chateaubriant and Canet Roussillon have seen Montpellier reach the last four of the domestic cup competition in high spirits although the hosts have lost the last four meetings on the trot against PSG.

Paris St. Germain may feel they have a point to prove on Wednesday night at Montpellier as the visitors have managed to win just one of their last four matches in all competitions, which came in the shape of a 2-1 home win over Lens in Ligue 1.

However, the French champions were made to look ordinary against Premier League title-holders elect, Manchester City, in their recent Champions League tie with the Paris outfit losing home and away in a 4-1 loss on aggregate.

In addition, PSG’s hopes of landing another Ligue 1 title were dealt a blow on the weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw away from home at Rennes following numerous wasteful misses in front of goal and only had themselves to blame for not picking up all three points.

PSG now trail Ligue 1 leaders, Lille, by a three-point margin and with the likes of Monaco and Lyon both breathing down their necks, PSG manager, Mauricio Pochettino may opt to rest a few first-teamer’s here in favour of securing the domestic title.

Either way, PSG are expected to progress through to the final of this season’s Coupe de France where they’ll also be heavy favourites to win the competition as the visitors continue to plot their course for the domestic ‘double’.
