Newly-crowned Serie A title-holders, Inter Milan, will play host to Sampdoria at their Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday evening no doubt keen to assert their authority and underline why Inter became the domestic champions by carving out another three points.
A 2-0 win away from home at Crotone proved to be the decisive result for Inter Milan who secured the domestic top flight title thereafter, and this result extended Inter’s unbeaten run in Serie A to 18 matches overall.
With 14 of these 18 games resulting in wins and 10 of these 14 also seeing the hosts achieving clean sheets, this looks a daunting task for Sampdoria despite recording a 2-0 home win over Roma last weekend.
Inter Milan have been beaten at home just once throughout this season’s Serie A campaign, with a 2-1 loss to arch-rivals, AC Milan, in the Milan derby back in mid- October, but that has been Inter Milan’s only blot on an otherwise exemplary copy-book.
Inter have since embarked upon an excellent 13-match winning streak heading into this clash.
Sampdoria recorded a 2-0 home win over Roma last time out in Serie A which enabled the visitors to remain in the top half of Serie A in 9th place but they find themselves a massive 19 points behind Lazio and the top six of the domestic top flight.
Sampdoria will have to make do with a top half finish then in what has been an inconsistent season, winning 13 drawing 6 and losing 15, while the visitors have managed to register just four wins out of their last 12 matches overall.
Three wins out of their last four matches gives Sampdoria a chance of getting something out of this upcoming trip having racked up wins against Hellas Verona, Crotone and Roma, but results away from home have been very average.
Sampdoria have won just two of their last 10 matches on their travels which came in the form of wins at Parma and Crotone who, incidentally, sit in the bottom two of Serie A while also losing five of these last 10 games too.
Inter Milan have won each of the previous three meetings at home on the trot against Sampdoria and the hosts look set to record a fourth here on Saturday evening.
