With just seven matches left in the Portuguese Primeira Liga season, the race for survival is one of the biggest issues left undecided.
Two of the teams seemingly involved in the fight for survival Maritimo and Rio Ave meet on Wednesday meet on Wednesday evening.
The home side is currently in the relegation play-off spot, three points from safety in the Portuguese top-flight. However, a victory would move them to within two points of Wednesday’s opposition.
The Islanders have been on a poor recent run of form, as they have lost three of their last four matches in Primeira Liga. A lack of goals was a key factor in those losses, as Maritimo failed to score in all three of the defeats.
A torrid recent run of home form has not helped their chances of escaping trouble either, as they have won just once in eight league games on home soil. A 1-0 win in their last home game in the league ended a six-game home losing streak.
Rio Ave will still be looking over their shoulders slightly nervously at the bottom three in the Primeira Liga, as they are seven points clear of the automatic relegation spots in the Portuguese top-flight.
A win here would maybe make them far more comfortable for the remainder of the league campaign.
The visitors head into this clash on the back of a five-game winless run in the Portuguese top-flight. However, four of those winless matches have finished in draws.
Last time out in the Primeira Liga, they drew 0-0 with Sporting Braga.
Rio Ave have found away victories hard to come by of late, as they have won just one of their last ten away games in the Primeira Liga.
Forebet predicts that this clash will finish all square, a result which may be more useful to the visitors than the home side who are attempting to climb out of the relegation zone.
