Borussia Dortmund fell to Manchester City 2-1 on Wednesday night in the Champions League. Now, Edin Terzic’s team will turn their attention back to the Bundesliga for a match versus Werder Bremen.

The Yellow and Black are seven points back of fourth-place Eintracht Frankfurt in the race for Champions League football for next season.

Borussia Dortmund are coming off of a thrilling 3-2 win over Stuttgart in the league and will fancy their chances of defeating Werder Bremen.

The Green and White head into matchday 29 losers of four straight games. Werder Bremen are only four points above the relegation playoff place and Florian Kohfledt will be desperate for the team to remain outside of the bottom three places.

Werder Bremen were forced to play in the relegation playoff game last term to rescue their Bundesliga status. They could be sucked closer to the bottom three with a loss and Arminia Bielefeld win against Augsburg.

Borussia Dortmund went to the port city of Bremen earlier this season and won 2-1. Raphael Guerreiro opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but Werder Bremen’s Kevin Moehwald equalised on 28 minutes. With 11 minutes to play, Marco Reus scored to give Borussia Dortmund all three points.

The injuries at Signal Iduna Park are lessening. Jadon Sancho is back in individual training following a muscle injury. The weekend match versus Werder Bremen could come too soon, however. Midfielder Thomas Delaney is a doubt while 19-year-old Ansgar Knauff could play as part of the front three.

Knauff is another Borussia Dortmund academy player to graduate into the first team as a teen. Terzic has preferred Knauff of late over Gio Reyna, Julian Brandt, and Thorgan Hazard. Reyna appears to be out of favour with the coach.

Milot Rashica could start the game after scoring his first goal of the campaign versus RB Leipzig last weekend. Romano Schmid could get a start as well along with Kevin Mohwald – he scored Werder Bremen’s goal in the reverse fixture with Borussia Dortmund.

Felix Agu is likely to start on the left side of the team as Ludwig Augustinsson is a doubt to make the squad. Former Borussia Dortmund defender Omer Toprak is ruled out for Werder Bremen.

Reus has scored more goals against Werder Bremen than any other Bundesliga team. He has 14 goals in 18 league games against the Green and White.

He could spark Borussia Dortmund to a win and potentially reel in Eintracht Frankfurt in the chase for Champions League qualification.
