AC Milan may have conceded the Serie A title race against their arch-rivals, Inter Milan, but there’s still plenty to play for with AC Milan looking to further cement their place in the top four of Serie A when they play host to Genoa on Sunday evening at their Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
AC Milan now trail Inter by an 11-point margin and now accept the title race is all but over but with just four points separating the hosts from 5th placed Napoli, the hosts are by no means guaranteed a top four finish in Serie A yet and still have work to do.
The hosts have lost just once in their last seven matches overall which was a 1-0 loss at home to Napoli but victories against Roma, Hellas Verona, Fiorentina and Parma, all away from home, have maintained AC Milan’s second place in Serie A.
Stefano Pioli’s side are without a home win in four matches but they hold a steady record against Genoa, winning four of the last six meetings against their visitors.
The hosts are expected to be missing defenders Calabria and Romagnoli while forward Ibrahimovic is suspended following his red card against Parma.
Genoa suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat away at Juventus last weekend and now face another tricky outing to Milan to face 2nd placed AC Milan having managed to pick up just one win out of their last nine matches overall in the Italian top flight.
That rare success came in the form of a 2-1 win away from home at Parma but three defeats and five draws have held Genoa in a holding pattern as the visitors remain in the bottom half of Serie A in 13th place.
Genoa have picked up a few wins on the road so far this season with victories at Spezia, Crotone and the aforementioned Parma but it’s worth noting that all three of these clubs also reside in the lower half of Serie A.
In addition, Genoa have failed to score in eight of their 15 away matches to date this season and have kept just four clean sheets into the bargain, and the visitors will be without defensive pair, Czyborra and Pellegrini for this trip.
AC Milan will be without talisman Ibrahimovic up front but the hosts are still expected to secure the three points here.
