Just two places separate Levante and Villarreal as the two sides prepare to face off in La Liga on Sunday night.

Ninth-place Levante currently find themselves on 38 points – eight points behind seventh-place Villarreal.

Levante have lost three of their last eight La Liga games, although all three of those defeats have come in their previous five outings.

Following losses to Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Huesca, Levante returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Eibar last weekend.

Despite seeing less of the ball and recording just a single shot on target, Levante managed to edge out Eibar.

Looking at the bigger picture, Levante have only lost two of their last 16 away matches in all competitions.

However, it is worth noting that Levante have also won just one of their previous nine home games in all competitions.

On the other hand, Villarreal have only lost five of their last 42 matches in all competitions and haven’t trailed at half-time in any of their previous 13.

Following three straight victories over Eibar, Cadiz and Granada, Villarreal suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Osasuna last weekend.

Remarkably, Villarreal enjoyed 68% possession and racked up 15 shots against Osasuna, yet they were unable to avoid defeat.

The Yellow Submarine are on a strong run of scoring in each of their last eight away matches in all competitions.

Gerard Moreno has bagged 24 goals and eight assists this term, while Paco Alcacer has chalked up ten goals and four assists.

Head-to-head: These two sides met in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals back in February, with Levante winning 1-0 after extra-time.

Still, it is worth pointing out that Villarreal have won three of the last four La Liga meetings between the teams – scoring over 1.5 goals on each occasion.

Team news: Levante have two injury absentees right now, with Jose Campana and Nikola Vukcevic on the sidelines.

As for Villarreal, they are currently without central midfielder Vicente Iborra and left-back Pervis Estupinan.

Levante may have beaten Villarreal in the Copa del Rey, but it is difficult to ignore Villarreal’s recent La Liga record against Levante.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Villarreal will score over 2.5 goals en route to beating Levante on Sunday.
