Elche gained what could prove to be a valuable point last time out in La Liga with a 1-1 draw away from home at Getafe just before the international break which enabled the hosts to remain outside of the relegation zone.

However, the battle against relegation resumes this Sunday against high-flying Real Betis with the hosts just one league position and two points above the bottom three and having picked up just two wins out of their last 23 matches overall in the Spanish top flight, Elche look far from a guaranteed three points here in this upcoming clash.

These two wins were both registered on home turf at their Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero with victories over Eibar and Sevilla but otherwise it’s been a pretty barren spell of results for the home side in their bid to secure their La Liga status for another season.

Results at home have been fairly reasonable as Elche are unbeaten in their last three matches but they did lose 3-1 to Real Betis in the previous encounter against their visitors back in November.

Defender Barragan and forward Boye are both sidelined through injury.

Real Betis will be looking to pick up where they left off before the international break as they signed off with a 2-0 home win over Levante which became Real Betis’s fifth win in six matches overall in La Liga and has maintained their position in the top six.

Recent wins against Villarreal, Getafe, Cadiz, Deportivo Alaves and Levante have thrust Real Betis up into contention for a spot in Europe next season and having lost just twice in their last 12 matches (against top four opposition, Barcelona and Sevilla), the visitors look a decent bet to get something from this Sunday’s encounter at Elche.

The visitors have also suffered just the one defeat out of their last five matches on the road which was at 4th placed Sevilla but wins picked up at Huesca, Villarreal and Cadiz should give Real Betis plenty of confidence in taking the spoils this Sunday in their quest to consolidate their place in the top six of La Liga.

Real Betis are expected to have just the one absentee for this clash with midfielder Camarasa out with a knee injury but otherwise manager, Manuel Pellegrini has a clean bill of health and his side may well walk away with the points here.
