If Spain’s last home match is anything to go by we should be in for a few fireworks on Thursday night as Spain play host to Greece in this Group B opener.
Following Spain’s last triumphant 6-0 thrashing over Germany back in November last year in the Nations League.

The Estadio Neuvo Los Carmenes provides the backdrop to Spain’s opening match in their World Cup qualifying campaign and the hosts are expected breeze through these qualifying group matches and finish top of a group that also includes Georgia, Kosovo and Sweden.
Spain have lost just once in their last 19 matches in all competitions which came in the shape of an unexpected 1-0 defeat away at Ukraine in the Nations League.
This sequence also includes 12 wins, while form in World Cup qualifiers is on another level.
The hosts are unbeaten in their last 63 matches which is a phenomenal record indeed, while on home soil, Spain have won 13 of their last 15 matches with six of their last seven matches at home also resulting in over 2.5 goals.
Greece look to have their work cut out ahead of their trip to Spain in Thursday night’s group opener but they’ll be hopeful that they can continue their recent resurgence against their hosts having lost just once in their last 11 matches in all competitions.
Greece are expected to be vying with Sweden for the remaining second spot in Group B behind Spain and with seven wins in these last 11 matches, Greece stand a decent chance of making a claim for a possible 2nd place finish.
However, Greece’s chances of upsetting the form book against Spain appear to be slim as the visitors have managed to collect just two wins out of their last nine World Cup qualifiers which came in the shape of victories over Cyprus and Gibraltar.
Results away from home at this level haven’t been bad either though as Greece have lost just one of their last nine matches on their travels and they could at least contribute to the scoreline in this clash as they’ve scored in eight of their last nine on the road.
Five of the last eight meetings between Spain and Greece have resulted in over 2.5 goals and this trend could continue on Thursday night.
