Villarreal won 2-0 in their Europa League first leg match versus Dynamo Kyiv and now, Unai Emery’s team go into the second leg with the chance to punch their ticket for the tournament’s quarterfinals.
The first leg saw Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Raul Albiol score on either side of halftime. Dynamo Kyiv’s loss to the Yellow Submarine was the only blemish the team suffered in their last 12 games in all competitions.

The Ukrainians are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 games and are coming off of a weekend win versus Zorva. Villarreal are a stronger side and will be difficult for Dynamo Kyiv to claim a victory.
Yellow Submarine are also coming off of a win at the weekend. They defeated Eibar 3-1 away in the Basque Country at the weekend. Now, Villarreal can seal their progression to the elite eight of the Europa League.
Emery’s team have posted a 9W-6D-2L record at the Estadio de la Cermica this term. They have been the draw masters of La Liga. They have scored 32 goals this term while conceding 18. The Yellow Submarine concede an average of just 0.75 goals per game at home.
Dynamo Kyiv have registered a record of 9W-3D-2L. They have scored 29 times and conceded 13 times. The Ukrainian team are top of their domestic league with Shakhtar Donetsk four points behind them.
Dynamo Kyiv face Shakhtar Donetsk in a few weeks' time and may have their attention on the derby.
Emery has three players that could miss the game due to injury. Defender Pau Torres scored against Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg but is a doubt for the second leg with a muscle injury.
Midfielder Ruben Pena is also a doubt due to muscle strain while midfielder Francis Coquelin is unlikely to play due to ankle issue.
Viktor Tsyhankov leads Dynamo Kyiv in goals with 12 in all competitions this season. He has been the club’s main goalscorer with second-leading scorer Vitaliy Buyalskyi scoring just four times. Two of Buyalskyi’s goals have come in the Europa League.
Can Dynamo Kyiv go to the Estadio de la Cermica and win versus Villarreal? The Ukrainians could put in a strong performance but it won’t be enough to defeat the Yellow Submarine.
Villarreal should win the second leg just as they did the first and progress to the quarterfinals of the competition.
