Marseille’s recent revival in Ligue 1 was short-lived as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away from home at Lille last week and the hosts return to their Orange Velodrome for this Wednesday night’s clash against Rennes looking to break their drought.

Marseille had previously put together a four-match unbeaten run in the French top flight which included three draws with Bordeaux, Nantes and Lyon in 0-0, 1-1 and 1-1 stalemates respectively, along with a 3-2 home win over Nice, but in truth, that’s been Marseille’s only real highlight in their last 11 matches overall.

It’s also worth noting that seven of these 11 matches have also resulted in under 2.5 goals while on home turf at their Orange Velodrome, Olympique Marseille have won 5, drawn 4 and lost 4 which includes just one win from their last five matches.

Seven of Marseille’s 13 home matches have also resulted in under 2.5 goals, while midfielders Gueye (suspended) and Rongier (tendon injury) along with defender Amavi (muscle injury) look set to miss out here.

Rennes have also suffered an alarming dip in form in recent weeks as the visitors slumped to a fourth defeat on the trot in Ligue 1 with last week’s 1-0 loss on the road at Lyon which followed previous defeats against Saint-Etienne, Montpellier and Nice.

The visitors have actually failed to win any of their last seven matches which consist of five defeats and two draws (v Lorient and Lens), meaning Rennes have picked up just two points from the last possible 21 on offer, so the prospects of an away win here do seem slim.

Until recently, Rennes had performed quite solidly on the road but the visitors are without a win from their last three outings on their travels while seven of their 13 away matches have also resulted in under 2.5 goals.

Goalkeeper Salin (abdominal strain) along with midfielder Martin and defender Traore (both suspended) look set to be sidelined for the visitors here as they seek a way out of their current dismal slump, and this upcoming clash looks to be very much make-or-break for Rennes.

Three of the previous four meetings between these two sides have resulted in under 2.5 goals and this trend may well continue on Wednesday night.
