Leipzig favourites for the points at Freiburg

Freiburg’s inconsistent streak continued on the weekend in the German top flight when they registered what seemed an unlikely 2-1 win away from home at Bayer Leverkusen which followed a 1-0 defeat at home to Union Berlin in their previous match, and they look set to have their work cut out against RB Leipzig this Saturday afternoon.

Having managed to win just three of their last eight matches overall, it’s perhaps no surprise that Freiburg have been unable to penetrate the top six in the Bundesliga, but the hosts still remain just three points shy of 6th placed Bayer Leverkusen ahead of this weekend’s action and they recently beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at home.

However, the loss last time out at home to Union Berlin ended an unbeaten run of seven matches which included five wins and they’ll be hoping they can bounce back against RB Leipzig here.

Freiburg’s only absentee for this clash against RB Leipzig is expected to be Korean midfielder, Kwon Chang-Hoon, but otherwise, manager Christian Streich, is expected to name the same XI that beat Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

RB Leipzig will make their way into this Saturday’s encounter away at Freiburg in confident mood having strung together an impressive five-match winning streak which includes wins against Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, Augsburg, Hertha Berlin and M’gladbach.

This recent flurry of victories have helped maintain Leipzig’s push for a possible Bundesliga title but standing in their way once again are Bayern Munich but their lead at the top is only two points and Leipzig will fancy their chances of picking up all three points here.

Results away from home have also been consistent for the visitors who have suffered just the one defeat out of their last eight matches on the road, that being a 3-2 loss at Mainz, but four wins and three draws within this sequence suggests Leipzig look set to hold the upper hand over Freiburg.

In addition, RB Leipzig have kept four clean sheets in these last eight away matches and this may play a key part in determining the outcome of this encounter at Freiburg on Saturday afternoon.

Leipzig are expected to be without the services of defender Angelino and midfielder Sabitzer who are sturggling with muscle and calf injuries respectively but nevertheless, the visitors should be too strong for Freiburg here.
