Roma and AC Milan to produce goals in top clash

One of the most attractive fixtures in this weekend’s action in the Italian top flight features the clash between 4th placed Roma and 2nd placed AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening with both teams needing the all-important three points.

Roma will head into this tasty encounter fresh from their successful midweek exploits in the Europa League where they recorded a comfortable 2nd leg 3-1 home win over Portuguese outfit, Braga, winning 5-1 on aggregate and they’ll now be turning their attentions to Serie A and consolidating their existing top four spot.

On the domestic front, Roma have produced fairly consistent displays of late as the hosts have lost just two of their last 10 matches, both of which were incurred away from home at Lazio and Juventus, while goals have also featured during this pell with seven of these 10 matches also producing three goals or more.

Roma also still remain unbeaten at home in this season’s Serie A campaign, winning nine and drawing three of their 12 matches to date but this record could come under heavy fire against their visitors, AC Milan, on Sunday.

Nine of Roma’s 12 home matches have produced over 2.5 goals so far this term.

Onto AC Milan and the visitors still occupy 2nd place but find themselves four points adrift of their local rivals, Inter Milan, heading into this weekend’s action in Serie A but they too progressed into the next round of the Europa League.

AC Milan’s passage into the next round of the Europa League wasn’t quite as smooth as Roma’s though as the visitors sneaked through on a better head-to-head record than their Serbian counterparts, Crvena Zvezda, while recent domestic results haven’t been entirely convincing either.

Three defeats out of their last five matches has seen AC Milan lose ground on Inter Milan following defeats to Atalanta, Spezia and Inter Milan themselves in last weekend’s Milan derby, so the visitors aren’t guaranteed the three points either this Sunday.

Goals have featured on a regular basis though away from home as seven of AC Milan’s 11 away matches to date have produced over 2.5 goals, while the visitors have failed to score just once on their travels to date.

Three of the previous five meetings between these two sides have seen over 2.5 goals and this trend may well continue on Sunday evening.
