Lazio welcome Bayern Munich to Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday for the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.

Bayern Munich are the bookmakers’ favourites to lift the trophy this season, while Lazio are one of the outsiders.

A run of seven wins in eight Serie A games has seen Lazio move back into the top four of the Italian top-flight.

The Eagles’ six-match winning streak was ended by Inter Milan, but they quickly bounced back with a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria on Saturday.

In the Champions League, Lazio enjoyed an unbeaten group-stage campaign earlier in the season, picking up two wins and four draws.

The Italian side ended up finishing two points clear of third-place Club Brugge and three points shy of Borussia Dortmund in Group F.

Lazio can take confidence from the fact that they claimed an impressive 3-1 win over Dortmund on Matchday 1, although Bayern Munich pose a completely different threat altogether.

Bayern made light work of Group A earlier in the campaign, finishing seven points ahead of Atletico Madrid.

Five wins and one draw saw Hansi Flick’s men qualify for the Round of 16 with ease, scoring 18 goals while conceding just five along the way.

Last month, a five-match winning streak enabled Bayern to open up a big lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

However, the German champions have only managed to pick up one point from their previous two outings.

After being held to a 3-3 draw by lowly Arminia Bielefeld, Bayern were beaten 2-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Head-to-head: Lazio have never faced Bayern Munich in a competitive game before, meaning there are no previous results to assess here.

However, Lazio have only lost one of their six Champions League games against German opposition, securing two wins and three draws in the process.

Team news: Lazio will be without Luiz Felipe, Thomas Strakosha and Stefan Radu on Tuesday, while Andreas Pereira is also a doubt.

Bayern Munich could be without as many as six players for the trip to Rome. Corentin Tolisso, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry and Douglas Costa aren’t expected to feature.

Lazio are expected to push Bayern Munich all the way on Tuesday, yet the Germans should have enough firepower to secure the win.

Forebet predicts that Bayern Munich will keep a clean sheet on their way to sealing a low-scoring win over Lazio in Rome.
