It’s the big clash that everyone’s been waiting for in Italy this Sunday afternoon as the Milan derby is almost upon us with AC Milan and Inter Milan locking horns at their shared Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Both teams sitting in the top two of Serie A and just a point separating them ahead of this mouthwatering encounter.
2nd placed AC Milan are just a point behind their Milan counterparts but they head into this Sunday’s meeting on the back of a surprising 2-0 defeat away from home at Spezia, so the ‘hosts’ will have a point to prove here.
Up until recently, AC Milan had started this Serie A campaign with an impressive 15-match unbeaten run but a few defeats have started to creep in in recent times as they’ve lost three of their last seven matches, but they’ve also gained four wins too.
Goals have featured on a consistent basis though as 15 of AC Milan’s 22 matches to date overall have resulted in over 2.5 goals, while eight of their 11 matches at home have also seen 3 goals or more scored.
Essentially, this is also a home game for local rivals, Inter Milan too, as they share the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with today’s hosts, AC Milan, but there’ll be no love lost in this fixture as not only bragging rights are up for grabs here but also the serious matter of a Serie A title at stake too.
Inter bring a six-match unbeaten run into this local derby having racked up four wins in the process over Juventus, Benevento, Fiorentina and Lazio, which has helped maintain their position at the top of Serie A, albeit by a slender margin of a single point.
The ‘visitors’ have suffered just two defeats all season to date as Antonio Conte’s men look to open up a lead at the summit of the Italian top flight with all three points this Sunday and overall form to date would suggest that the visitors might sneak home with a narrow win here.
However, local derbies have the tendency to throw the form book out of the proverbial window so the goals market appeals here, especially as 15 of Inter’s 22 matches overall have also resulted in over 2.5 goals.
With four of the last five meetings also producing 3 goals or more, further goals look to be on the cards in this clash on Sunday.
