The Ruhr derby between Schalke and Dortmund is usually a big event in the German football calendar. None more so than the latest instalment to be held at the Veltins Arena on Saturday evening.
Schalke are enduring a nightmare campaign in the Bundesliga that’s for sure. The Gelsenkirchen outfit head into this derby badly in need of a victory, as the Royal Blues are currently nine points from the relative safety of the relegation play-off spot.

Their position in the Bundesliga table is of little surprise considering that they have won just one of their previous 37 outings in the German top-flight.
They can take a small crumb of comfort from the fact that they have managed two draws from their last three league games, but it is victories that they need if they are to have any chance of making a late great escape.
Their awful recent home form has also played a big part in Schalke’s perilous position in the Bundesliga table, as they have claimed just one win in 18 league matches at the Veltins Arena.
Dortmund are in danger of missing out on the Champions League spots this season, as BVB are currently six points outside the Bundesliga top-four.
However, Edin Terzic’s team will head into this clash on the back of a potentially vital 3-2 win at Sevilla in the Champions League.
The win was a much-needed one, as Borussia Dortmund have won just once in their last six outings in the German top-flight. The goals have been flowing at both ends in Dortmund matches of late.
However, unfortunately for BVB, they have now conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven games in all competitions.
Forebet predicts that Dortmund will revive their top-four hopes by recording a victory in a high-scoring encounter to push Schalke a game closer to the German second tier.
