Spurs played well in the group stage earlier in the season taking 13 points from 18 possible. Although they played well, there were moments in which Tottenham slipped up crashing to a loss to Royal Antwerp and a draw versus LASK Linz. The latter was an Austrian team as well.
Wolfsberger finished second in Group K with 10 points from 18 on offer. They finished four points behind group winner Dinamo Zagreb. The Austrian team struggled to get goals with just seven in the group stage while allowing six goals to opponents.
Coach Ferdinand Feldhofer has an in-form team going into the game on Thursday. The Wolves are unbeaten in nine of their last 11 games in all competitions and are coming off of a 2-1 victory over Admira.
Wolfsberger have not been great at home this season. They have posted a record of 4W-6D-5L and have been outscored 26-20 by opponents on their own patch of grass. Spurs have recorded an 11W-6D-4L record on their travels, while outscoring opponents 46-25.
Mourinho has three players on his injury list going into the match on Thursday night. Giovani Lo Celso remains ruled out due to a muscle injury. He is expected back in early March. Serge Aurier could return to the team for the match after recovering from a calf injury.
Sergio Reguilon is also nearing a return. The defender has a muscle injury as well. Mourinho will pick is strongest squad possible to get an advantage to take back to London for next week.
Feldhofer has three players on the Wolfsberger injury list. Lukas Schofl is a doubt due to a muscle issue, Mario Leitgeb could miss due to a similar muscle problem, and Eliel Peretz is expected to sit out due to an injury.
Spurs may not be in form going into the Thursday night first leg match versus Wolfsberger, but they should grab an advantage to take home with them. Tottenham are a superior side in terms of quality and that quality should show.
Mourinho won’t park the bus versus Wolfsberger like he has against top Premier League teams. He will set out his side to score and win, which they will do in a very tight game in the Europa League first leg.
