Despite holding home advantage at their Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, Wednesday night’s hosts, Levante, look to have their work cut out when they prepare for the visit of La Liga leaders, Atletico Madrid, especially as the hosts were handed a 1-0 defeat at home by Osasuna on the weekend.
Levante had previously put together a promising five-match sequence without defeat in the Spanish top flight which included wins against Eibar 2-1 at home and most impressive of all, a 2-1 win away from home at 2nd placed Real Madrid.

The hosts had also picked up valuable points along the way as they were involved in draws with Cadiz, Real Valladolid and Granada, while results on home turf have also been encouraging with just one loss from their last 10 matches in their own backyard.
However, Levante have won just four of their 11 home matches to date in La Liga only one of which has been against a top five side (Real Sociedad), while their record against Atletico Madrid in recent exchanges has been poor as they’ve failed to beat their visitors in the past six meetings, losing five of these encounters.
Atletico Madrid still remain top of La Liga with a five-point cushion over their local rivals, Real Madrid, thanks to their 2-1 win away from home at Granada on the weekend which also extended Atletico’s unbeaten run in the Spanish top flight to 10 matches overall.
Even more impressive though is the fact that Diego Simeone’s side have picked up nine wins during this excellent 10-match sequence and this also includes winning their last five away matches on the trot on their travels too.
Victories on the road at Real Sociedad, Deportivo Alaves, Eibar, Cadiz and Granada have seen Atletico Madrid achieve clinical and ruthless wins against the lesser lights in the division and they’ll be keen to add Levante to this winning streak on their travels on Wednesday night.
It’s also interesting to note that Atletico Madrid have also scored 2 goals or more in each of these five away wins.
As the shrewd signing of former Barcelona and Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez (16 goals) has paid dividends for the Madrid outfit and has undoubtedly been one of the catalysts behind Atletico’s rise on the domestic scene.
