Villarreal will be looking to break their recent spate of stalemates in La Liga when they play host to Real Betis at their Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday evening when the two teams face each other, both with ambitions of furthering their European hopes.
Draws with Granada 2-2, Huesca 0-0, Real Sociedad 1-1 and another 2-2 draw away at Elche has extended Villarreal’s unbeaten run in the Spanish top flight to six matches but they’ve also seen the hosts lose ground on the top four as they now trail 4th placed Sevilla by a six-point margin.

Villarreal have been nothing if not consistent though in this season’s La Liga campaign as the hosts have suffered just two defeats throughout this term along with remaining unbeaten on home turf at the Estadio de la Cerámica, so they’ll fancy their chances of adding to their points tally here.
Five wins and six draws emphasise how hard Villarreal have been to beat in their own backyard while five of Villarreal’s 11 home matches have also produced over 2.5 goals.
Although Real Betis have produced far more inconsistent results than their hosts so far this season, the visitors still occupy 7th place in the La Liga standings but find themselves five points adrift of the top six heading into this clash.
A promising five-match unbeaten run for Real Betis was brought to an end last weekend when they were handed a 3-2 defeat at home to Barcelona, which means they’ll be keen to avoid back-to-back defeats on Sunday.
Recent wins against Huesca, Celta Vigo and Osasuna have helped keep Real Betis in the frame along with points picked up in draws with Sevilla and Real Sociedad, but just two wins on the road from their last eight matches may well hand the initiative to Villarreal here.
Five of Real Betis’s 11 away matches have also resulted in over 2.5 goals while the visitors have failed to score in just four of these 11 matches on the road, so goals could well feature in this clash at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Interestingly, five of the previous seven meetings between these two teams have also resulted in over 2.5 goals and this trend could continue here with Villarreal perhaps sneaking the points.
