Only 1pt and three positions separate Cadiz and Athletic Club in the La Liga table ahead of Monday’s match. Cadiz suffered a 4-1 defeat last time out at Real Sociedad and have now failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions.

Athletic Club failed to make the most of their home advantage in the 1st leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Levante, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The visitors are without a win in their last four fixtures, which gives Cadiz a reason to believe they can win this game.

Each of the three previous encounters between these two clubs have been tight and tense affairs, with a 1-goal margin separating the sides on each occasion. Cadiz claimed a 1-0 win at Athletic Club back in October and now go in search of the domestic double over the Basque side.

It doesn’t seem likely that either team will keep a clean sheet on Monday night, not if their recent performances are anything to go by at least.

Both teams have scored in four of Cadiz’s last six matches, as well as in all of Athletic Club’s last six outings. Over 2.5 goals have also been scored in five of the home side’s and three of the visitor’s last six outings.

The hosts have several injury concerns ahead of Monday’s match, with Augusto Matias Fernandez, Jens Jønsson, Álex Fernández, Carlos Akapo, José Mari and Luismi Quezada all likely to miss the game against Athletic Club.

The visitors won’t be able to call upon Asier Villalibre or Iker Muniain for the Cadiz game due to injury, while Iñigo Vicente is in isolation.

Cadiz have had more time to prepare for Monday’s match with Athletic Club being involved in a midweek cup tie. This could play right into the hands of Cadiz who already have the home advantage as well as the psychological advantage of already beating their guests this season.

Both defences look weak right now, so a bet on both teams to score makes a lot of sense. Neither team has won many games of late, but Cadiz looked best placed to claim all 3pts in this La Liga clash.
