Lyon responded to their recent disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Metz by recording a 5-0 thrashing away from home of hosts, Saint-Etienne, in the weekend’s Ligue 1 action and the hosts now return to their Groupama Stadium on Friday night where they’ll be looking to pick up where they left off against Bordeaux.
Lyon still remain in 3rd place in the French top flight but they’re just two points behind the top two clubs, PSG and Lille, prior to Friday night’s encounter, so there’s plenty to play for for the hosts who have lost just once at home so far this season.
That loss, as mentioned earlier, was an unexpected loss to Metz and the hosts are expected to produce a much better showing against Bordeaux and they’ll need to as the visitors sit in 7th place and will be keen on breaking into the top five in Ligue 1 soon.
Lyon have won six of their 10 home matches to date this term but the goals market appeals here as seven of Lyon’s 10 home matches have also resulted in over 2.5 goals and visitors, Bordeaux, carry a serious goal threat themselves.
Onto Bordeaux, and the visitors currently occupy 7th place in the French top flight and will also be in confident mood as they bring an impressive three-match winning streak into this Friday night clash at the Groupama Stadium.
Recent victories against Lorient 2-1, Nice 3-0 and Angers 2-1 also underlines the potential of further goals when they make their way to Lyon on Friday night, while also losing just one of their last six matches overall in Ligue 1.
Bordeaux do possess an inconsistent streak though and this is indicated by their overall record so far in this season’s campaign which has seen the visitors win 9, draw 5 and lose 7 to date this term.
Their inconsistent results have also continued on their travels as well this season as Bordeaux have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 4 so far on the road so the prospect of a straight win away from home against high-flying Lyon does seem to be unlikely.

However, the promise of further goals is apparent as six of Bordeaux’s 10 away matches have also seen over 2.5 goals while four of the previous seven meetings have resulted in three goals or more being scored.
