Lazio progressed in the Coppa Italia on Thursday night courtesy of a 2-1 home win over Parma. Sassuolo’s last game also came against Parma, but despite having the home advantage, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Heading into Sunday’s clash, just 1pt and one position separates these two clubs in the Serie A table, with Lazio just edging out this weekend’s guests in 7th place.

Games between these two clubs tend to be closely fought and always seem to produce goals. Five of the last six encounters between the pair have seen both teams score and five have produced over 2.5 goals.

Lazio edge the recent head-to-head record between the duo with three wins, two draws and one defeat from their last six clashes in Serie A.

If the recent performances of both sides are anything to go by, then we should be treated to a few goals on Sunday. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of Lazio’s and four of Sassuolo’s last six outings, while both teams have scored in four of the host’s and five of the visitor’s last six fixtures.

Lazio look set to without Luis Alberto, Danilo Cataldi, and Thomas Strakosha this weekend through injury. The visitors are expected to be without the services of Manuel Locatelli, Mehdi Bourabia, Domenico Berardi and Federico Ricci for the trip to Rome due to injury.

Lazio head into this match as the form favourites with four wins from their last six outings. Sassuolo have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions and have started slipping down the table in recent weeks.

Lazio are the favourites to win this game as they have form, history and the home advantage in their favour. However, both teams are in good goalscoring form and haven’t been keeping many clean sheets of late, so there should be goals in this game for both sides.

Lazio look best placed to claim all 3pts on Sunday in what could end up being a five-goal thriller.
